2024 AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees Focus on Growth by Building on Foundation Values

Leawood, Kan. — Family physicians are on the frontlines of health care—caring for patients, families and communities. As the AAFP Foundation celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Family Medicine Leads Emerging Leader Institute, we are thrilled to announce the 2024 Board of Trustees, who are eager to continue strengthening the values and success of the AAFP Foundation.
The AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees helps guide the philanthropic arm of the AAFP and supports programs that improve health and advance the practice of family medicine.
“Our Board has profound leadership experience and a passion for family medicine. They are eager to help advance family medicine through philanthropic programs, scholarships, and events. I am excited to welcome our new trustees to the AAFP Foundation family and see the important and rewarding work they will do to serve our members and their communities during this milestone year,” said Tomás Owens, MD, FAAFP, President, AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees.
The new members of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees are:
- Moazzum Bajwa, MD, MPH, MSc, Physician Trustee - Dr. Moazzum Bajwa is an assistant professor of family medicine at the University of California Riverside (UCR) and director of Community Health & Social Medicine at Riverside University Health System (RUHS/UCR) Family Medicine Residency program.
- Teresa L. Lovins, MD, FAAFP, Academy Trustee - Dr. Teresa Lovins is a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Lovins is currently a physician owner at Lovin My Health DPC in Columbus, Indiana.
- Eddie Richardson, Jr., MD, FAAFP, Physician Trustee - Dr. Eddie Richardson Jr. is a native of Echols County. He earned his BS in Chemistry from Valdosta State University, served with distinction in the Marine Corps, and received the Navy Medal of Achievement. He is the Medical Director & CEO of Lake Oconee Urgent & Primary Care Center and Lake Oconee Concierge Medicine.
The AAFP Foundation Officers for 2024 are:
- Tomás Owens, MD, FAAFP, President - Dr. Tomás Owens is director and practicing full-scope family doctor at INTEGRIS Great Plains Family Medicine, an Oklahoma City-area residency program. He is also the chair of family medicine and president of the medical staff officers at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center.
- Jay-Sheree Allen, MD, President-Elect - Dr. Jay-Sheree Allen Akambase is a Preventive Medicine Fellow in the Division of Public Health, Infectious Diseases, and Occupational Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and an Executive master's degree in public health Practice candidate at the University of Minnesota.
- Renee Markovich, MD, Vice President - Dr. Renee Markovich is the clinical associate director of the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Family Medicine Residency Program and an assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University.
- Andrea Gavin, MD, Treasurer - Dr. Andrea Gavin began her career in family medicine in Plymouth, Wisconsin, in 1991. In addition to providing heartfelt, comprehensive care to her patients, she gives back to her community through her active participation in community and non-profit boards and local fundraising activities.
