Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the AAFP Foundation continues to provide a minimum of 250 Family Medicine Leads (FM Leads) Scholarships for residents and medical students to attend AAFP FUTURE July 31—Aug. 2, 2025 in Kansas City, MO. This provides the opportunity to experience and explore family medicine through educational programming and procedural workshops, leadership opportunities, and interaction and networking with family physicians and peers from across the country.

Students who wish to apply for this award must complete an online application that includes answers to the following questions:

    1. How did you become curious about family medicine and what do you hope to learn about the specialty by attending FUTURE?
    2. How are you deciding which specialty is right for you (i.e. faculty, mentor, role model, etc.)?
    3. The thing you have found most surprising or inspiring about family medicine is…

Each text box allows for 1000 characters (approximately 150 words). You are encouraged to give considerable thought to the essay questions and draft your answers in a separate document prior to beginning your application. If applicable, you may also complete an optional essay to briefly describe how you identify as someone underrepresented in medicine (500-character limit).

You must be a MS/OMS 1–3 student during the 2025–26 academic year to apply.

You are not eligible if you will graduate before July 1, 2026.

Application is due by May 1, 2025.

Applicants will be notified on June 3, 2025.
