AAFP Insurance Services, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Foundation, has named Jered Hunt president of the organization, following the retirement of Richard Marsh. Hunt joined the agency in 2018, overseeing various lines of business while serving in roles of increasing responsibility. He has also worked directly with clients – family doctors – to help them build and implement comprehensive financial and risk management plans.

As the only insurance agency solely devoted to family physicians, AAFP Insurance Services meets a unique need. In addition, the agency’s earnings support the philanthropic work of the AAFP Foundation.

“Family physicians often take care of others, before they take care of themselves,” Hunt says. “Our agency provides much-needed and very valuable information to the AAFP members we serve. I’m proud that our work brings peace of mind to family doctors, and that the profits we generate are returned via dividends to the AAFP Foundation. We’re helping the helpers.”

With 18 years of insurance industry experience, Hunt brings firsthand knowledge of claims, property and casualty insurance, advanced life insurance design, financial planning, and organizational leadership to his new position. He received his MBA from Drury University in Springfield, Mo., and his bachelor’s degree in insurance and risk management from Missouri State University, also in Springfield.

“Thanks to the work Jered and his team do, family physicians around the country are better prepared for the future, and have solid plans in place to build and protect their finances,” says David R. Smith, MD, MPH, FAAFP, and president of the AAFP Foundation Board of Trustees. “The AAFP Foundation is also in a stronger position, as we strive to support the essential work of family medicine in America and throughout the world."
